'In peace true soldiers are captive lions, fretting in their cages. War gives them their liberty and sends them, like boys bounding out of school, to obtain their heart's desire, or perish in the attempt. Battle is the soldier's vital breath! Peace turns him into a stooping asthmatic. War makes him a whole man again, and gives him the heart, strength, and vigour of a hero.'

Lead me to the Rock

'Trust in the LORD [JHVH] with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him [in everything and every situation acknowledge God, recognise that he knows the end from the beginning of all things, and is to be trusted in every matter], and he shall direct you in the way you should go.' (Proverbs 3:5-6)

This is an amazing and calming message that can wipe away the stress and worries of every situation in which we may find ourselves.

When we find ourselves at uncertain crossroads in life and wonder what on earth we ought to do; when we have to choose what needs to be the right decision or the best road to travel on for our future, then this little verse is so powerful.

While we try to figure out why things have gone wrong, or why life has dealt us an unexpected blow, the verse above calls us to trust in the LORD. In that very simple phrase is every good reason to stop worrying or being anxious. He knows and sees all things, and to those who have faith enough to trust him, he will bring you through, he will make a way, even in the impossible scenarios that sometimes stand like giants in front of us.

To acknowledge that he is God and knows everything, sees everything, and can do anything, is the beginning of trusting him with the outcome. Our fears and stress have the power to change absolutely nothing. So why worry, when we can place our concerns in front of him who is above all things?

To acknowledge God in all things is to hand over the matter completely to him, knowing that he is bigger than us, wiser than us, and more capable than the best effort we may make.  When we do this, then God takes charge and directs us as to what to do next.

It starts when we read the Holy Bible (such as this little verse at the beginning) and talk to him honestly and transparently.

In such a type of prayer-time we will discover that God is more than interested in our circumstances and our life. He is ready, willing, and able to do exceedingly more than we might ever think or imagine possible. (Ephesians 3:20)

We may not always like the answer he gives, for he calls us to stop doing wrong and learn to do right, so that all our paths will become blessed. Obedience is the best evidence of our trust in him.

"From the end of the earth will I cry to you, when my heart is overwhelmed [shrouded in gloom and darkness, ready to faint at my troubles]: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I." (Psalm 61:2)

That was a prayer of King David when he faced insurmountable troubles, having been cast out, left homeless, and rejected. He called on God to lead him to the Rock that was higher, stronger, unbreakable, unmovable, and which had stood the test of time and eternity.

That Rock is Jesus. His name is higher than any other name ever named either on earth or throughout the universe. He is seated higher than all, and at his name every knee shall bow.
