'In peace true soldiers are captive lions, fretting in their cages. War gives them their liberty and sends them, like boys bounding out of school, to obtain their heart's desire, or perish in the attempt. Battle is the soldier's vital breath! Peace turns him into a stooping asthmatic. War makes him a whole man again, and gives him the heart, strength, and vigour of a hero.'
C.T. Studd (famous British missionary)

Living right in a wrong world

The words of King David which we might do well to take to heart:

I will sing of mercy and justice: to you, O LORD, will I sing.

I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way [in a righteous way]. O when God, will you come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart [with integrity and uprightness].

I will set no wicked thing [nothing impure, ungodly, or worthless] in front of my eyes: I hate the work [the practices and behaviour] of those who turn aside [of those who fall away and turn from from the right way of living]; it shall not cleave to me [it shall not stick to me].

A froward heart [a perverted or deceitful heart] shall be removed from me [whether that be of my own self, or of a person who I am acquainted with]: I will not be associated with a wicked person.

Whoever secretly slanders his neighbour [gossips about them; stabs them in the back], I will cut off [I will shut them down and cut them away from me]: he that is arrogant and of a proud heart I will not put up with [I will not entertain or befriend].

My eyes shall look and search for the faithful souls of the land, so that they may live with me [be my companions, my best friends]: he that walks in a righteous way, he shall work for me [that is the one I shall employ].

He that works deceitfully shall not stay inside my house: he that tells lies shall not stay very long in my sight.

I will soon destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.
