'In peace true soldiers are captive lions, fretting in their cages. War gives them their liberty and sends them, like boys bounding out of school, to obtain their heart's desire, or perish in the attempt. Battle is the soldier's vital breath! Peace turns him into a stooping asthmatic. War makes him a whole man again, and gives him the heart, strength, and vigour of a hero.'
C.T. Studd (famous British missionary)

Your choice, but make it the right one.

‘There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.’ Proverbs 14:12

There is a road, a path, a new direction that seems good and profitable to a person, but at the end of it are the ways of destruction and death.

What a verse this is from the book of Proverbs! It speaks to us as individuals.

You may be at the point of deciding to do something that you think is great, brilliant, and really ‘right’ for you;

but then this little verse jumps up into your face and says, ‘Think!

You may be considering a new venture or a new way forward, a new business partner, or something else: and suddenly these words from the Bible smack you on the head, and say, ‘Consider what you are intending to do!

Good advice can save us from a lot of sadness, disappointment, and grief. It may also save our lives at times if we take good notice of it.

Another proverb says, ‘For by wise counsel you shall engage in battle: and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.’  (Proverbs 24:6)

Do not get into a fight or argument before taking some wise counsel from a person who has a bit of good common-sense.

Sometimes we need the counsel of someone wise who can see things from a different angle. We may not even wish to hear what they might have to say (and that is usually a very good reason to take extra notice of them); for they might just be the wall of protection that will keep us from our own folly and silly mistakes.

And then the verse speaks of a ‘multitude of counsellors’.

At times, when we are uncertain or have that ‘niggling’ feeling about our decisions, then there can be no harm in getting the thoughts from a group of sensible people, for in doing so there is safety for us, and their combined wisdom  may lead us to a better choice.

We all want to do what we want to do, but there are some roads in front of us that will lead to destruction. Let us not be impatient, but consider the path that we intend to go on, and wait on God before stepping out in self-determination. (Proverbs 4:26)

The path of truth and righteousness is the safe path

The path of deception is most certainly and ultimately a path of death to the planned expectation.

Be careful how you choose.

Ask God for his decision. (Proverbs 3:7)
