'In peace true soldiers are captive lions, fretting in their cages. War gives them their liberty and sends them, like boys bounding out of school, to obtain their heart's desire, or perish in the attempt. Battle is the soldier's vital breath! Peace turns him into a stooping asthmatic. War makes him a whole man again, and gives him the heart, strength, and vigour of a hero.'
C.T. Studd (famous British missionary)

Time to do what we are meant to do

‘Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you are going.’  Ecclesiastes 9:10

OK, so let me transliterate that a little. ‘Whatever you can do and is in the power of your hand to do, do it with every ounce of strength, ability, and with the resources and assets that are with you; for once you are dead you are totally unable to do anything; neither can you rectify, change, or return to do what you were meant to do or believe you should have done.’

That’s it.

But let me add a bit more…

If you actually believe that you are here in this world for a reason, and I mean a reason that comes from above and which you know in your heart that you are called to fulfil (Colossians 4:17), then you had better do everything in your God-given strength to complete the task He has trusted you with.

‘Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you fulfil it (do it completely).’

Procrastination is a sore disease that only leaves regrets and a vacuum where something good should have been. To put off doing what you know is right will leave you wandering in a circle, not knowing where to go next.

‘Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.’  (James 4:17)

In Numbers 13, when the spies were sent out to examine the Promised Land, they observed many things. They saw abundance of fruit and prosperity, beautiful pastures and crystal clear streams of water; they saw the prospects of wealth and increase: but then they saw the giants and potential obstacles that scared them from leaving their wanderings in the wilderness.

Joshua and Caleb had the heart of God, and boldly declared that they should all pack their bags, do what God tells them, go and invade the land before them, and live victoriously ever-after.

However, the multitude gave in to the negatives, looking at what they would personally lose, rather than what they would gain. Their doubting left them to continue wandering around in circles for the rest of their lives.

Let us not look at what we have to lose, but at what God in his abundance will provide when we dare to believe him and do what he called us to do. Let us make sure that when we do anything, we do it unto the Lord, and not as unto people or purpose.

Then blessings will follow.
